The Bistro

The Stretch of coast East of the Garages.

The Bistro area on Loch Fyne is a low water mark primarily producing Dogfish  but started producing Haddock this year. Gurnard, Dab, Cod, Pollock Dragonnet and Conger have all been taken from here over the winter  The club record shore Haddock coming from the Bistro area. This mark unfortunately has suffered from its own success and saw very few fish taken in late winter, after a couple of trawlers cleaned it out..

Notable Marks are The Garage’s, The Spit and Crarae.

The Garages are the closest to Furnace about ¾ of a mile before the Café. A small car park with some garages in it signifies the area. Park here, thoughtfully, and walk back towards Furnace. Fish anywhere on this stretch, If you don’t find deep water move on a bit.

The Spit is situated behind the Café and is accessible for approx 3 hrs either side of low water, depending on the size of tide. A rocky spit that fishes directly into deep water. It can be snaggy close in. When the tide is rising keep an eye towards the shore and the tide fills in the shore end of the spit first.

Crarae Point is about ¾ a mile after the Café. Park in the small lay-by and walk back towards the Café. When you reach the gate go through, remembering to close the gate after, and head for the water. Fish from the point leftwards. It shallows dramatically to the right of the point.

Standard Dogfish tactics are the norm for all three marks 3 hook clipped or flappers size 1 or 2 hooks (fine wire ones) and a luminous bead on each snood. Baits are Rag, Mackerel and Sandeel. It is also worth taking Razor Crab Mussel and Squid to try as these areas through up the odd Dab Whiting Haddock etc. The occasional Mackerel can be caught all year round.

Waders are advised for all three areas especially the spit if you want to stay on there after the tide turns or want to get on early. They help in other areas as there is a very pronounced ledge which can be very difficult to get over at low water. Waders mean you can almost get out to the ledge and lift straight up, this is where the fine wire hooks help.

Darkness is definitely an advantage in this area.

Other areas in Loch Fyne worth trying are Furnace for Pollock and Conger and dogs, Kenmore for Pollock and for the boat anglers there are 2 charter boats available the Keltic Lady from Ardrishaig and So Fyne from Tarbet
