Club
Shore Outing - January 2008
Arbroath area
The first
outing of 2008 saw us back up the North East in search of Cod. No specific venue
had been chosen on this occasion, and the decision was to meet at Victoria Park
and make a choice of venue from there, depending on conditions on the day.
In the end
the conditions were a bit disappointing - not quite rough enough for good cod
fishing, but not exactly flat calm either. Of the six anglers who showed, 3
showed a preference for Usan, while the other 3 wanted to give Scurdie Ness a
try. So away we went, and in truth neither spot fished particularly well. Usan
in particular only produced 1 sized fish, a Pollack of just under 3lbs for
Daniel Diaz. Up at Scurdie, the target species turned to Dab, and we found the
sandbank carpeted with them. Unfortunately only a few were in-size, producing 3
for Davy Mcnair, and 2 for me, along with a bonus Flounder.
Top rod on
the day, I'm delighted to say was Brian Allan, who managed 2 in size Dab, and
winkled out the only codling of the day, a very welcome fish of 2-and-a-half
pounds, to take the 100 points, and his first outing win . Well done Brian.
Next
outing in March will be to the Loch Fyne/ Loch Shira area.
